St. Benedict’s Prep started its basketball season with a thrilling 60-56 win against rival Arts High School, powered by standout freshmen Michai White ’28 and Chase Bray ’28. The pair combined for 39 points, with 12 coming in a decisive fourth-quarter rally.
How it Happened:
With 2:19 left and St. Benedict’s trailing 54-52, Bray drained a clutch three-pointer from the right wing to seize a 55-54 lead. Moments later, after Arts tied it, Bray’s fearless driving layup with 1:22 remaining put the Gray Bees ahead for good.
White finished with 23 points, including four three-pointers, while Bray added 16. Junior Alexander Sadek ’26 also contributed a critical three-pointer during the fourth quarter. St. Benedict’s defense and Arts’ struggles at the free-throw line (5 of 18) played a crucial role in the comeback.
From the Court:
“Coach said stay composed and we did. We had to keep playing hard and not let the crowd get to our heads; just play our game,” – Chase Bray ’28
“The coaching staff prepared us for moments like these. Me and Chase were ready, we know what to do. We both know how to handle the ball and certain situations.” – Michai White ’28
